Comic Book in a Day 2024

Ignite Studio will host Noblesville Creates’ 11th annual Comic Book in a Day Challenge on January 20th, 2024 from 9am to 5pm. The event is open to comic book artists, comic book lovers, and anyone who wants to explore something unique and creative.  All ages and abilities can sign up with Noblesville Creates. Spend the day creating, from scratch, a comic book of any genre in 6 hours with the help of our professional featured artists!  In-person and virtual options are available. Comic Book in a Day 2024

Those curious about comic books or eager to meet our professional featured artists, can drop in for free throughout the day of the Challenge. Explore our comic-themed hands-on activities for all ages, too! Our featured artists can show you how they create their work and how nationally-published comic books are made! Shop for art, prints, and comic books. Featured artists will be on hand to help challenge artists and visitors all day long.

To prepare for the Challenge, or to celebrate your love of comics, you can also sign up for free one-hour workshops prior to the event at Ignite Studio during the month of January:

Learn the Basics of Comic Books: Story & Art*
Tues. 1/11 | 6:30-7:30pm | IGN

Artists and comic book enthusiasts of all ages can discover the basic building blocks that make comic books such a unique medium. This workshop focuses on how to develop a sequential story, with some tips and tricks to make your own comics even better! The presenter is Erik Lundorf, known for murals, designs and telling comic stories. In the summer of 2023, Erik released his first graphic novel “Revealed.” Ages 8 and up.

What Makes Telling Stories in Comic Books Great?*
Tues. 1/16 | 6:30-7:30pm | IGN

At a glance, comic books can seem to be just pictures and words, but comic-lovers know that they are so much more than the sum of their parts! Whether you are a long-time comic book fan or brand new to this genre, this workshop will open your eyes to some great storytelling techniques and maybe even point you towards some great new titles! The instructor is Bill Wilkison; a historical interpreter, actor, artist, teacher and clown. Ages 8 and up.

Next Level Comic Book Creating*
Thurs. 1/18 | 6:30-7:30pm | IGN

Are you feeling confident about your comic book knowledge? Are you looking for a new creative challenge? This workshop will give you pro-level tips on taking your own original comic books or comics-inspired art to the next level. The presenter, Stuart Sayer, is internationally known by his comic book covers for Lego Bionicle, DC Comics, his own book “Shiver in the Dark” and many others. Stuart is an engaging teacher and will be a Featured Artist During Comic Book in a Day. Ages 8 and up.

Attend one or all of these workshops to train up for the big Comic Book in a Day Challenge, or just to explore this unique literary genre!
